Marc is an experienced and seasoned attorney who has represented a variety of tenants negotiating leases for retail, office, warehouse/distribution and data processing/storage facilities nationwide and around the world. His experience covers both the business side of structuring deals and the legal aspects of commercial leases.
Marc was most recently the Director of Corporate Real Estate for Bose Corporation, where he was responsible for the company’s real estate matters and participated in the selection and establishment of new locations. He negotiated new and renewal leases for the company’s retail locations and corporate offices, warehouses and distribution centers in the United States and internationally, including locations in Canada, India and China. While at Bose, Marc was involved with negotiating leases for retail stores in major shopping malls, lifestyle centers and airports as well as for company stores in off-price centers. He was also responsible for lease administration, including auditing and lease reconciliation, for all retail locations and all corporate facilities, including office, warehouse and distribution centers in the United States and worldwide. Marc was involved with Bose Corporation’s leases in India and China and gained extensive experience with retail and non-retail locations in emerging markets.
Marc also served as Vice President/General Counsel of H.P. Hood, New England’s oldest dairy company for five years, where he was responsible for a wide variety of legal matters, including acquisitions of regional dairies and distributors, human resource and labor issues, corporate safety and OSHA compliance and a broad variety of corporate matters. While at H.P. Hood, Marc oversaw the construction and development of new distribution and processing facilities, managing relationships with contractors, co-pack agreements and complex environmental and land use issues.
Prior to joining H.P. Hood, Marc served as Vice President/General Counsel of Marshalls, Inc., where in addition to handling all legal matters, he was responsible for the advancement of the company’s retail leasing expansion program and all lease administration matters. During his tenure at Marshalls, Marc implemented one of the first lease reconciliation programs in the retail industry, realizing millions of dollars in savings/recoveries for Marshalls. While he served as General Counsel he also served as Vice President of Administrative Services. Marc was also responsible for the company’s corporate risk management/insurance program as well as the company’s purchasing programs for all 500+ stores, offices and distribution centers worldwide, reviewing and negotiating thousands of corporate agreements for products, supplies and services for the company. He also implemented the company’s Americans with Disabilities Act compliance program and served as the Chairman of the company’s first charitable giving/award committee.
In addition, Marc has an extensive background in negotiating all types of commercial contracts including software licensing, security agreements, food service/vendor contracts, transportation/logistics contracts and credit and collection matters.
Marc has also worked in private practice where he represented clients such as The Black Dog (originally of Martha’s Vineyard) in its expansion of retail stores to Cape Cod and mainland Massachusetts, and The Casual Male Retail Group, Inc. in lease negotiations for new locations. He also represented C & S Wholesale Grocers, the largest whole grocery supply company in the United States in reviewing and negotiating supermarket leases.
